Security level in Washington seemed less than last time, but that was the day they killed Bin Laden.
Enjoyed dinner in restaurant attached to hotel that Robert de Niro owned. Gemma. In New York
Fuel is 25% cheaper this year than in 2013. $2.75 per gallon at the cheapest.
Plan driving trips via parkways. No lights, no trucks, no billboards, and beautifully maintained. Only drawback is lower speed limits.
Keep an eye out for fauna! The wildlife is amazing, bear, bison, deer, elk, porcupine, skunk, squirrel, coyote, raccoon, armadillo, bighorn sheep, wolverine, wolf and even mountain lion. A lot of it dead on the road and ready to eat!!
Only three close calls whilst driving:
I went through a red light in Texas at 60mph, didn't even see it. They're horizontal, suspended from wires.
We almost collided with another car whilst moving over from the fast lane. He had come up on the inside at about 100mph!!
Whilst driving along the Natchez Trace I got a little carried away. The highway patrol gave me a blast of "lights and sirens" to slow me down. Thank you, Officer.
Suzy has, amazingly, booked us some of the greatest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in! Even in cities that are notorious for small rooms. In New York the room was big enough for a full size snooker table, as well as the bed etc. Nashville, New Orleans, Natchez, Washington, Palm Springs, all huge!! The crowning glory was LA. A suite the full width of the hotel. One floor down from the rooftop pool. Fantastic views of the city and right on sunset. Awesome!!
