New journey to an old favourite

We're off to the USA again. It is our current holiday destination of choice, regardless of how long we have available, but this time we have a long six weeks!

We plan to drive from west to east, to the middle, the north west and back to LA. We had hoped to travel right around, but even six weeks is not enough time to do that and see anything along the way.

I have booked only the first night's accommodation, which is quite a departure for the highly organized person that I am (Note: if you don't have an address for the first night you can't even check in for departure). This allows freedom to choose our daily path, which aligns more with Dom's free wheeling nature. We'll head off in the direction of Miami and see where the road takes us (hopefully to Miami!).

We arrived at Brisbane airport a little earlier than normal as there have been strikes by airport staff, but we were checked in, through security and the new electronic immigration departure points as fast as we could walk!

The new Air New Zealand lounge (we're flying with Virgin Australia) is spacious and attractively furnished, with comfortable spaces and a delicious full breakfast spread.

Brisbane airport departure lounge has been renovated since our last visit and is almost finished. The duty free is more spacious and there are more cafes, which is a big improvement.

We were counting on buying USA SIM cards for our phones from the airport, but they're not sold here, as they are in Melbourne departures. I'm disappointed, as it was so convenient buying before we left last time.

We've boarded our Boeing 777 and are ready to go. It's a lovely day for flying.
