Visiting the Clan in Kansas City

Our room at the Ramada Salina was basic but comfortable ($50 walk in rate). The rooms were inside a bigger building and therefor had no windows to let daylight in. We slept well and left late, which was a luxury afforded by the long drive yesterday.

The news predicted a snow storm across the mid-west, but outside it was clearer than yesterday and precipitation free!

The scenery became more interesting with hills and green fields and trees (not many trees in the western part of Kansas yesterday!) and attractive houses with red and white barns.

It was soon raining and then snowing as we neared Topeka. Not politely falling snow flakes, but a snow storm driven by a horizontal gale.

We spent some time at an outlet centre near the NASCAR raceway, Kansas Speedway. The wind and snow made the outdoor mall a little less enticing than normal, but lunch at Five Guys was excellent.

We found our way to Dom's cousin's house in the beautiful suburb of Lawrence where the houses are huge and set in lovely yards. After a quick catch up, we were off to see young Patrick in his school play! It was a great show, followed by drive through barbecue, which was fabulous! The pulled pork was incredible.

It has snowed all day today, making driving a challenge again but it was nice to not have to cover many miles in these conditions.

Tomorrow we're off to Nashville!
