Kansas is the sixth state we've driven through so far. We started in California, then Nevada, Arizona, Utah and then Colorado.
Since Denver we've seen only fields. The weather has made it difficult to see very far, and so the afternoon has been about napping, dodging ice falling off vehicles at high speed, and spotting Starbucks outlets.
Whilst the snow has given way to rain, it's still hovering around zero degrees at 3pm. It's also very windy. Snow that was on the bonnet at 6am is still there, 430 miles later!
The visibility has improved a little and beyond the fields I can see some nodding donkeys, impressively large farm machinery and some massive plants of undetermined purpose. They could be for grain processing, but there seems to be too many of them for the overwhelming lack of grain (the fields just look to contain grass and occasionally a cow).
Highway driving has its downside - trying to eat healthily! We ate at Wendy's for breakfast and Arby's for lunch! And no exercise in between. My challenge will be to cross America by car without putting on serious kilos.
Approaching our stopping point for the night at Salina, Kansas, hundreds of wind turbines appeared out of the gloom. Each one was at least 60 feet high!
We're losing time as we travel east, which is a little bit of an inconvenience on a massive drive. We're appreciating the long hours of daylight at least.
1000 kilometers today! Biggest driving day over. Safe and sound at the Ramada Salina.
